SAIO is backed by SA Olympiads & FEMSSISA NPC — South Africa’s premier academic competition programme for learners in Grade 1 to Grade 12. We create pathways for our best students to compete on the world stage.

Eligibility for SAIO international events is earned through the SA Olympiads National Round, ensuring that every learner that represents South Africa has genuinely earned their place.

The Pathway to SIMC 2027

The SA Olympiads Mathematics competition develops problem-solving, logical reasoning and quantitative thinking from Grade 1 upwards. Top performers at the National Round earn their place at SAIO’s flagship international event.

2028 · Cape Town / Durban

The Pathway to the 2028 International Event

The SA Olympiads English and Natural Science competitions develop reading comprehension, creative expression, scientific curiosity and understanding of the natural world across all grade levels.

SA Olympiads competitions are entered through your school’s registered SA Olympiads coordinator. If your school is not yet registered, speak to your principal or contact us.

August 2027

SAIO International Mathematics Competition (SIMC)

📍 Johannesburg, South Africa

Mathematics only, from Level 3 (Grade 3) and above. Eligibility is achieved through participation in the SA Olympiads National Round. Partner countries include Vietnam, the Philippines, Mexico and the GLOW network.

August 2028

International Olympiad — English & Natural Science

📍 Cape Town / Durban

A two-subject international event hosted on South African soil.
